Cowley Hill Farm was originally a Dairy Farm and it included the entire 120 acres of land surrounding it. The main barn, which now houses 21 stables, was the main cow shed and milking parlour, there was a second cow shed and the Pole Barn, which was used as a hay barn. The dairy farm closed down in the 1970s and stood empty for many years.
In the 1980s, the land was split between arable and grazing and the farmhouse was separated from the land.
In 2000, 32 acres of the land and the main barns were converted and rented out as a livery yard and Cowley Hill Livery Stables came into existance. Five new stables in the main barn and a new hay barn were built. The Pole barn was converted into stables and the additional cow shed into a workshop. A lot of money was injected into refurbishing the buildings, the fields (with water troughs), fencing, extending the arena, installing a lunge ring and building a gallop track. The remaining 90 acres of the original farm are now accessible to local horse riders for hacking.
In its time, Cowley Hill Livery Stables has been run as a fully-staffed, full-livery yard, a DIY yard and plenty of versions in between. It is now a family-run DIY yard with services catering up to 7-day full livery. It's a friendly place where the horse is our priority and riders of all disciplines are welcome.
